“ENGULF”
A kinetic sculpture by 13 students and 2 professors in the SCAD Industrial Design department.
MY CONTRIBUTIONS: SPRING 2017
I participated extensively in research & ideation, & made a number of kinetic models such as the ones in the video below. I worked in a three-student group to develop one of the final three sculpture concepts.
MY CONTRIBUTIONS: FALL 2017
I contributed the most to aesthetic design & ideation for the final sculpture concept. For example, I had the idea to make the sculpture move horizontally rather than vertically, & I helped place the iridescent panels in a visually pleasing way.
I also worked on the fabrication team - this included cutting, cleaning, sandblasting, & MIG welding metal for the first prototype. For the second prototype, I drilled all the gusset holes, cleaned the sculpture in preparation for painting, & helped install iridescent stickers onto the transparent plastic panels.
Finally, I assembled & edited the footage for the sizzle reel video at the top of this page.
The sculpture is now on semi-permanent display in SCAD’s building, the Shed.
